RuffTug started because I wanted a hat that said something about my dog.

I wanted something clean. No cartoon paw print, no slogan across the chest. Just a well made hat that quietly said I have a dog and he matters to me.

I looked for it for a while. It wasn't out there. What I kept finding was either cheap or loud, and usually both. So I made it myself, and I named it after him.

Tug was my dog. He's gone now, and the brand carries his name because he is the reason it exists.

Anyone who has had a dog like that knows the feeling. You spend years buying the good food, the harness that actually fits, the vet visits you don't think twice about. Then you look at what's being sold to you, the owner, and it's a twelve dollar shirt with a bone printed on it. That gap is what I'm trying to close.

What we make

Hats, shirts, and accessories with simple designs. The kind of thing you'd wear because you like how it looks, not only because of what's on it.

The details I care about:

• Embroidered, not printed. Stitching outlasts vinyl and screen print. It won't crack, peel, or wash out on you after a month.
• Heavyweight, ring spun cotton. Softer, heavier, and it holds its shape instead of going shapeless in the dryer.
• Made to order. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting to get marked down. Your piece gets made after you buy it.
• Printed and finished in the USA.

Making things to order adds a few days on the front end. I'd rather you wait a week for something you'll still be wearing in three years.

The standard

I hold this apparel to the same standard I held pet care to. If I wouldn't have cut the corner for Tug, I'm not cutting it here. That's the whole rule.

What's next

We aren't donating to rescues yet. I want to get there, and I'd rather say that plainly than put a vague line about giving back on this page with nothing behind it. When it happens it'll be a real number and a named organization, and you'll hear about it from me.
